A little about me

When I was 4 my parents immigrated to the United States from Arteaga Michoacan, Mexico. We moved along the west coast as migrant workers for the next two years. My dad eventually settled us in a small town on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State called Forks. Due to the Twilight books series by Stephanie Meyer, you may now be familiar with my hometown due to the growing number of vampires and werewolf’s. Before these creatures of the night roamed Forks wooded areas and streets, it was a sleepy logging town.

After graduating high school I attended the Art Institute of Seattle. I focused on publication design, logo design, illustration and font design. I graduated at the end of 2001. I spent many years doing freelance work and working at various print shops. Landing a design job working in the commercial real-estate industry, I learned to work on crazy tight deadlines along with handling client expectations. By the time I had left the company, I had become the senior graphic designer and I was in charge of teaching the incoming designers and interns all my knowledge of the various design challenges.  After 15 years as a graphic designer I had started to contemplate a switch over to UX Design.

Over the years I started to get more and more excited in the emerging design fields made possible by the iPhone. On more than a few occasions my friends and I would discuss awesome mobile application ideas. These ideas along with my growing curiosity eventually led me to pursue a User Experience career. This transition made sense, as it would take my traditional graphic design skills I had acquired over the years and repurpose them for new the new challenges in UX Design.
