The Problem

RRetrofit Home’s website hasn't been updated in a couple of years and they are looking to streamline their current e-commerce platform to reflect a more modern web best practices. Highest priority will always be given to the face-to-face contact that they have with their customers, but management recognizes that there are plenty of opportunities to better support the local community by creating a more engaging online shopping experience, beyond what they currently offer.

The Solution

I started the Discovery phase with conducting a content audit on the current website for Retrofit Home. I next used three local shops that were in the same demographic as Retrofit Home for a Competitive/Comparative Analysis. I next posted Furniture screeners on my social networks. I wanted to gather information regarding how people purchase their furniture and to find any pain points. The screener yielded 8, 30+ minute interviews. With this research I created a: User Journey, Story Boards, Persona, & Site Map.

With the Discovery Phase complete, I went to the Design Phase and started paper prototyping my design ideas. From there I started wire framing these ideas. I conducted four user tests. I completed 3 iterations of the wire frames with this feedback.

Retrofit Home takes a design approach, the store constantly changes and evolves, and as always, they leave the attitude to others. This is a neighborhood store.

MID Fidelity Screens

I focused on getting the Retrofit Home site to reflect Jon and Lori’s ideals through thoughtful use of space and image placement. The mid fidelity wire-frames guide the user through a furniture purchase flow.
